It was an honor for Chuck Moore and I to work with DC & Sona Kaushal and Living Hope Ministries of India. DC is a veteran Indian missionary/church planter, who at 72 is still going full throttle fulfilling God’s call to reach the nation of India with the Gospel.
We spent most of our time in Amritsar in Northwest India. Amritsar is different than most of India which is predominately Hindu. Amritsar is home of the Sikh religion and the Golden Temple. it’s estimated that 65% of the population are Sikhs. The rest of the people are mainly Hindu and Muslim, about 1% are Christian. While there, we saw only one Christian church building. The churches we had the opportunity to visit met in homes with anywhere from 50 to 100 people. The women would sit on one side of the room, the men on the other and most of the children up front. They worshipped to the beat of a small hand drum and there were always a handful of Sikh’s who came to listen to the teaching from the Bible.
In Amritsar we stayed with DC at the site where the orphanage is being built. It was cold at night and around 3:30am we would wake to the sounds of prayers coming through the loudspeakers of the Sikh temple about a half mile away. In the morning we would enjoy the hot tea mixed with delicious water buffalo milk. One morning, I was looking at the never ending view of wheat fields that surrounded the orphanage site and thought of the words of Jesus in Luke 10:2 "The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few.” My heart was overwhelmed by the thought that in India there are about 350 million people that have never heard the gospel of Jesus Christ. I began to pray how we as a ministry could and should be involved in reaching them with the gospel.
Later that day, we had our first meeting with a group of pastors that Living Hope Ministries of India had trained and sent out into the unreached villages of northern India. These men, their wives and children are making great sacrifices to go to places others haven’t and with the message of Jesus Christ that most haven’t heard. Each minister is ministering in many different villages, traveling by motorcycle every day in a part of India that is only 1% Christian. After spending time with these dear servants, I knew we had to be involved in helping them reach the people in these unreached villages. Here in the United States, it’s estimated that we have 1 full time Christian worker for every 250 people, in unreached areas of the world there is only 1 full time worker for every 400,000 people.
In John 4:35 Jesus says “Do you not say, 'Four months more and then the harvest'? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.” In northern India the harvest truly is great and the laborers are few. Our desire is to help raise financial support for these Indian pastors and missionaries. They’re a group of men that are being trained, mentored and pastored by DC Kaushal and his son Subodh in their school, Destiny Bible College. Together they have a vision to reach the people of India with the saving message of Jesus Christ. Would you consider helping us to help them?
If you would like to help, here’s what you can do! It costs $120 to $200 a month to support a pastor full time on the field depending on whether they’re married or single and how many children they have. This amount includes ministry expenses, like transportation and materials, it also covers family expenses, including their children’s education. We’re looking for people who will give $30 or more a month towards this support. Please note one time gifts are welcome as well! 100% of your donation will go directly to the pastor’s support through Living Hope Ministries of India and you’ll be a part of your missionary pastor’s support team. We’ll send you a picture of the missionary you are supporting and where in northern India they are ministering so you can also support them through prayer. These are missionary/pastors that we’ve met personally and know they have a heart to serve God and to reach people with God’s message of salvation by grace through Jesus Christ. Thank you for your prayers and your consideration in this matter.
In His Service, Brian Weller
